Copilot will soon be available in the Windows 10 Release Preview channel and is expected to be gradually deployed to all Windows 10 devices at a later time.
Microsoft is extending its Copilot artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, initially exclusive to Windows 11, to Windows 10. During the annual Microsoft Ignite 2023 developer conference, the company announced the release of Copilot, formerly known as Bing Chat, to the Release Preview channel for Windows Insiders. This move allows users with older computers, incompatible with the latest Windows version due to hardware limitations, to soon access the AI assistant.
In a Thursday blog post directed at Windows Insiders, Microsoft shared that the Copilot generative AI assistant would be available in preview for users running on preview builds. The same features will be introduced to users on Windows 10 version 22H2 at a later date. To ensure prompt access to Copilot features on Windows 10, users need to adjust their Windows Update settings. By navigating to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and toggling the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option, users can then check for updates to ensure their Windows version is up-to-date.
Microsoft emphasized that the end-of-life date for Windows 10 remains October 14, 2025. Users on Windows 10 version 22H2 can anticipate the gradual rollout of the generative AI assistant to their computers following testing on the Windows Insiders Release Preview channel.
